Business Ethic is an Oxymoron? Essay Sample. When car manufacturers produce cars due to their customers need cars, it damages the environment and became a causing factor of global warming. For the society, is it an ethical behavior? The organization itself think this behavior is ethical because manufacturers do the #8216;right#8217; thing which is increasing profit for the corporation and meet the needs of their customers, others will regard it as an ethical problem because it destroys the living environment. There is a contradiction of business ethics and les miserables, this essay will discuss whether #8216;Business Ethics is an essay oxymoron or not#8217;. It will compare the traditional and modern role of managers and les miserables sparknotes, then the essay will provide some ethical theories to explain the reasons of views that business ethics is or isn#8217;t an oxymoron. In addition, it will provide the demonstration of the importance of ethics in corporations.

The essay will give some examples to present how business and ethics mutually work in on civil, the business fields and evaluation of some controversial cases by using non-consequences theory as well. Finally, there will be a short conclusion. Ethics in general refer to the rules and principles of being right and wrong conduct (Richard ,2010). However, ethics in business environment is more complex when it involves all of sparknotes organizational aspects. It has a strong influence on the effectiveness of companies (Sargent, 2007). Abortion! But, not all organizations doing their business ethically and they indeed avoid doing ethically because they regarded it as a barrier to achieve their goals.

The reasons that why organizations choose doing unethically is influenced by their views of the relationships between social responsibility and organizational goals. There are two main opposing views of social responsibility which are classical view and socioeconomic view. The classical view says that management#8217;s only social responsibility is to les miserables sparknotes, maximize profits (Branco Rodrigues, 2007). Milton Friedman also argued that manager#8217;s essential responsibility is to operate the business and meet the best needs of the shareholders (Kelly, 2002). From this view, it regards business ethics as an critical path management oxymoron because business is seen to les miserables sparknotes, accomplish the pursuit of justify the means self-interest while ethics is always recognized as a consideration of others (Collins, 1994). People who hold this view will choose doing the thing which is #8216;good#8217; for sparknotes their organizations without caring about others. On the other hand, the effects of imperialism in asia socioeconomic view states that managers should also consider about protecting and improving society#8217;s welfare when they are making profits to the company (Collins, 1994). Supporters of the sparknotes socioeconomic view contend that managers should be concerned with maximizing financial returns and contribute themselves to their community (Wartick Cochran, 1985). A more effective managerial role must be operating in an interdependent environment and they think the success of a corporation cannot be without the Essay Abortion help of employers, suppliers and customers (Wartick Cochran, 1985). The key difference between these two perspectives is the people to whom organizations are responsible. Shareholders will be viewed as the main concern by les miserables, classical view while others would say that managers are responsible to of imperialism, any group which affected by les miserables sparknotes, the organization#8217;s decisions and essay on civil, actions (Carrillo, 2007).

These differences can be explained by the ethical theories. The behavior of traditional view can refer to Egoism. Sparknotes! According to it, an Security Technological Advancement Essay action is _#8221;morally right if the decision-maker freely decides in les miserables, order to pursue either their short-term desires or their long-term interests#8221;_ (Andrew Dirk, 2010). Adam Smith argued that #8220;_The pursuit of self-interest in business field is proper because it produced an ethical desirable outcome for society_#8221; (Andrew Dirk, 2010). People who think business ethics is an oxymoron because they think organization have to on civil disobedience, maximize the profits without thinking about others, this is sparknotes also influenced by three main factors: Restriction of rules and regulations.

Government made laws to ensure organizations can develop in a fair and strict environment. However, companies cannot get complete benefits from effects these laws so that some companies think restricted law often play a role as an obstacle to prevent company from gaining more profits. Since the trend of globalization occurred and the society has become a competitive environment, competitors are the main factor leads companies to sparknotes, disobey code of ethics (Hemphill, 2004). Freedom For African Americans In Democracy America De Tocqueville! The companies think that in order to have a strong ability of competing with others, they have to be the most prominent one in sparknotes, their areas even though they may operate unethically. The content and focus of an Essay about Abortion organization#8217;s culture also influence ethical behavior (Arnold Lampe, 1999). It can shape high ethical standards (Weaver, 2004). This will encourage employees to be aware of doing ethical thing and it also will have a strong influence on managers#8217; decisions to act ethically or unethically (Barnett, 2001). After explaining the reasons why people think pursuiting of self-interest is ethical, the les miserables essay will then focus on the reasons of a new trend which related to socioeconomic view. A new theory occurred and disobedience, it would focus on society and other individuals rather than on self-interest. Unlike Egoism, Utilitarianism demonstrated that #8220;_An action is morally right if it results in the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people affected by the action_#8221; (Richard, 2010).

This principle does not only ask whether their individuals#8217; desires and interests are met, it focuses on the collective benefit (Andrew Dirk, 2010). People who hold socioeconomic view think it is moral if the les miserables sparknotes action fits for the Utilitarianism#8217;s description of good thing and Grow with Advancement, it can be examined from two ways which are the effects of ethic and social responsibility on organizational performance and les miserables, non-consequentiality theories. EFFECTS OF ETHICS AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. There are evidence emerging that corporate who focuses on critical project management, social-environmental performance may be strongly associated with financial and marketplace success (Failback Gorman, 2004). While it is essential that business#8217;s goal is to make maximum profit, it is also clear that social and environmental innovation may become a considerable competitive advantage and this relationship will provide a new opportunity for companies to open up a new market (Willard, 2002). For example, carbon emission caused by the car has been a factor of leading to climate change and the situation need to sparknotes, be changed by seeking a more eco-environment friendly policies of Essay about and Murder car corporations. On one hand, it is a threat to corporation because there will be an extra cost of developing new technologies of cars.

On the other hand, it is an attractive field to a new breed of environmental entrepreneurs which may bring more profits to the car corporations. In addition, corporations realized to use energy more efficiently and this will save money. For example, Toyota Motor Corporation (Fackler Tabuchi, 2010) acknowledged that environmental issues should be paid attention by the top management for sustainable development and les miserables, it can be reached by developing advanced technologies (Fackler Tabuchi, 2010). This is a way of gaining trust and Must Advancement, respect of all the customers around the world and Toyota currently pursues recycling resources as well as makes efforts of sparknotes reducing the environmental burden (Fackler Tabuchi, 2010). Another example is from A1 Telekom Austria AG which has a scheduled task to expand its Smart Energy Control (SEC) pilot nationally. This is expected to disobedience, save 1.2 GWh of electricity and restraint at least 432 tones of CO2 emissions in sparknotes, 2010. The company found that this transmission will annually save about 175,000 Euros (Energy Environmental News for Business, 2010). Effects! The most important thing of focusing on the relationship between organizations and society is to gain a competitive advantage from fundamental changes in both production design and technology which will better fulfill their customers#8217; needs and help to solve environmental and social problems as well (Tan Zailani, 2009). In terms of non-consequentiality theories, German philosopher Immanuel Kant argued that #8220;_Morality and decisions about right and wrong were not depended on a particular situation and he developed a theoretical framework called the categorical imperative_#8221; (Andrew Dirk, 2010). There are three maxims can be used as tests for every possible action and sparknotes, one of them is #8220;_act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law_#8221; (Andrew Dirk, 2010). Maxim 2 demonstrated that we shouldn#8217;t only treat people as means to achieve our goals and forget about their own needs and Freedom Americans in Democracy in the America de Tocqueville, ignore their expectations to make their own choices (Andrew Dirk, 2010).

For the organization who only thinks a pursuit of self-interest is ethical, they maybe regarded as immoral by Kant#8217;s view. For example, Chinese hospitals are struggling to save 1,253 babies#8217; lives that were fed by milk powder called #8220;Sanlu#8221; which is the biggest retail commerce in China contaminated with an industrial chemical used to les miserables sparknotes, give milk the Must Grow with Advancement Essay appearance of sparknotes higher protein content (Macartney Yu, 2008). It has become a serious problem in of imperialism in asia, China and more and more babies are sick because of the milk powder contaminated with melamine and it has caused a negative effect on families. Producers of this milk powder had been arrested and the investigation found that #8220;Sanlu#8221; tends to hide the problem of their milk powder#8217;s quality because their interest is to maximize profits, if they exposed their quality problem, this will threat their sales so that they choose to continue producing milk powder contained with melamine. From the above example, we can find that although organization can have short-term benefit when they are doing unethical things in order to increase profits, it will cause trust crises when they ignore their customer safety. In addition, they will spend more cost to re-establish their corporate image. By applying Kant#8217;s theory, this problematic milk powder cannot be produced on a large scale because it is a serious threat to babies#8217; healthy although they will get large profits if they produce more milk powder, this is an unethical action.

Another example is from the Chinese Daily News which is in les miserables sparknotes, the central Chinese province of Henan, there were at least 19 miners killed and 24 trapped by a mine explosion in 2010 and on civil, during the same week, there were about 10 workers trapped in another region and nine workers died during a fire in mining field of Shanxi province as well (Chan, 2010). These accidents happened on illegal mining companies. Behind the criminal activities of mining companies and government officials, the fact is that profit is put before the lives of workers in this example. The demand for les miserables more energy increased in path management, China, this was driven by soaring prices for les miserables coal created by cheap bank credit and real estate speculation, the owners of essay on civil mining fields intend to have a desire of profit-making, this is the reason why there are more and sparknotes, more illegal mining companies occurring (Chan, 2010). Moreover, they use labors regardless of critical path management their safety and les miserables, pay them in a low scale. This phenomenon violates Kant#8217;s maxim 2 because these illegal corporations treat people as means to mine larger amount of coals in order to Essay Is Inhumane and Murder, increase profit but they neglect the safety of miners and this can be an unethical action from sparknotes Kant#8217;s point. Another measure to do the justify the means, evaluate the self-interest seek is les miserables ethics of rights and Must Technological Advancement, justice.

It is developed by John Locke and les miserables sparknotes, we could define that #8220;_Natural rights are certain basic, important, unalienable entitlements that should be respected and protected in every single action such as a right to life, education and fair trial_#8221; (Richard, 2010). Path Project Management! Applying to the above example of illegal mining corporations, we could find that the sparknotes actions of owners are immoral because they ignore the miners#8217; rights to live. In addition, many miners in these companies is under the lowest level of path management payment and their rights to have a good labor condition is exploited by employers due to it is treated as a huge cost by employers. Les Miserables! People who think business ethics is an oxymoron because there is a potentially conflict between making profits and costs of considering others, however, the modern economic society has paid their attention on developing sustainable management, people began to believe that business ethics and pursuit of self-interest interdependent. Business ethics is not an oxymoron and do the ends justify, #8220;_A good ethics will leads to a good management_#8221; said by John Collins (Collins, 1994). Business ethics strongly improve the quality of business as well as making profits in the long-term period. Although people think a pursuit of self-interest is ethical due to les miserables, the egoism theory, from the utilitarian view, we should also consider about other people who will be affected by our actions.

Business success should be evaluated from a long-term performance instead of Abortion Is Inhumane considering short-term benefits. Arnold V. Lampe J. (1999). Airstrikes on Aleppo Resume as Russia Begins New Offensive in Syria. Russia's defense secretary, Sergei K. Sparknotes. Shoigu, revealed some details of the renewed military strikes on Syria after a relatively calm few weeks. By THE NEW YORK TIMES on Publish Date November 15, 2016. Photo by Abd Doumany/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images. Critical Path Project. Watch in Times Video » BEIRUT, Lebanon — Warplanes resumed airstrikes on the besieged rebel-held sections of Aleppo, Syria, on Tuesday, as Russia began a major new offensive against insurgents battling Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad. Russia’s defense minister, Sergei K. Shoigu, said it had started “a big operation to deliver massive strikes” against sparknotes the Islamic State and the Levant Victory Front, formerly known as the Nusra Front, in Idlib and Homs Provinces.

Jets taking off from Russia’s aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, conducted their first strikes on Syria, the Russian military said, noting that its forces were hitting targets in Security Must Grow Advancement, the two provinces. It was unclear whether the strikes on sparknotes, Aleppo were by Essay about Abortion and Murder Russian or Syrian government warplanes. The fighting shattered the relative calm that had prevailed in the rebel-held eastern parts of Aleppo for sparknotes, about three weeks. “Our house is being shaken,” Modar Sheikho, a nurse and essay on civil disobedience, antigovernment activist in sparknotes, rebel-held Aleppo, said in a text message. “The warplane is still in the sky.” He shared an audio recording with the roar of a plane and the sound of explosions. Residents reported airstrikes on at least five Aleppo neighborhoods. The extent of the casualties was unclear, but they appeared to on civil include at least three civilians, including a woman, who were killed in les miserables sparknotes, the neighborhood of Masaken Hanano, and Americans in Democracy in the America de Tocqueville, 10 others who were wounded. There were conflicting reports about whether the attack had consisted of barrel bombs, which are usually dropped from helicopters, or an assault by les miserables sparknotes fighter jets. “Since this morning, until now, dozens of do the shells and rockets have bombed Aleppo,” Mohammad al-Sheghal, a resident of eastern Aleppo, said in a text message, adding that he believed the planes were Russian fighter jets. Mr. Shoigu, at a meeting in Sochi, Russia, with President Vladimir V. Putin, said that a Russian warship, the Admiral Grigorovich, was taking part in this operation, launching cruise missiles against insurgent targets. “For the first time in the history of Russian Navy, the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier took part in combat, too,” he said. “Today, our Su-33 fighter jets began to work from this warship.” Mr.

Shoigu also briefed Mr. Putin on what he called the use of chemical weapons by the insurgents. The Russian military said that chemical weapons used by insurgents had caused three deaths of Syrian soldiers, and the hospitalization of dozens of soldiers. An error has occurred. Sparknotes. The pilot ejected safely, and the Russian Defense Ministry blamed a technical failure. The fighting broke out a day after Mr. Putin spoke to President-elect Donald J. Trump and agreed to cooperate on fighting “international terrorism and extremism,” according to Americans in Democracy America by Alexis de Tocqueville a Kremlin statement.

That declaration echoed Mr. Trump’s recent comments that he would try to work with Moscow and with Mr. Assad to sparknotes fight against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh. Mr. Trump’s comments concerning Syria also received a favorable reaction on Tuesday from the United Nations special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura. “What he’s been saying is quite interesting,” Mr. de Mistura said, speaking on the BBC’s “Hardtalk” program. “The focus, the essay on civil, priority, is Daesh, fighting terrorism. Second to les miserables sparknotes do, if possible, a deal with Russia. Both points make a lot of Americans in Democracy sense.” The diplomat said he had yet to speak directly to Mr. Trump or his associates. Sparknotes. He also emphasized that in his view, the Syria conflict still required “a completely new approach to what is a political solution.” The Syrian government has tended to call all its opponents terrorists, and do the justify the means, Russia makes little distinction among the les miserables, different groups fighting Mr.

Assad. A constant sticking point has been that some of the rebels that the United States has supported have made battlefield alliances with Qaeda-linked groups considered terrorists by Moscow and Washington alike. Mr. de Mistura has estimated that perhaps a few hundred of the 10,000 or so fighters inside besieged eastern Aleppo are affiliated with Al Qaeda; rebels say that number is path management lower and the government says it is higher. The Obama administration has said that fighting the Islamic State is the priority of the United States, not toppling Mr. Les Miserables. Assad — though that is another stated American aim.

Under Mr. Obama, the United States government has continued to support some rebel groups that Washington deems not to be extremist, and it has shunned direct cooperation with Moscow and Damascus, contending that their campaign in Syria has been focused less on defeating extremists and more on battling opposition groups fighting Mr. Assad. The Obama administration has also condemned what it says is indiscriminate bombing by in asia the Syrian government and its Russian allies. A change in American policy under Mr.

Trump, who is to take office in January, could involve a shift toward direct cooperation with Mr. Assad and with Russia against the Islamic State. Essay on “Child Sex Tourism in Developing Countries” While it might not seem that way in sparknotes the United States, or in other developed nations, child prostitution is a significant issue around the world , and it still manages to Must Grow with, exist under the les miserables sparknotes radar of public health authorities. Each year, as many as a million children are coerced into about Abortion Is Inhumane prostitution; the total number of children in prostitution at one time could be as high as 10 million. Because of the privation that these children face, there is not enough data about the les miserables sparknotes health problems that these children face – but the maladies include forced pregnancy, substance abuse, violence, mental illness, and infectious diseases. Just like any other form of child abuse, child prostitution not only leads to Abortion and Murder, death for far too many, but it also takes away their dignity and their basic rights. The purpose of les miserables this research is to analyze existing literature on child prostitution, particularly with regard to critical path project management, health issues as well as best practices in the tourism industry, and emerge with recommendations to help promote sustainable tourism in developing nations without resorting to the use of child prostitutes. Sparknotes! The need for finding a way to in Democracy in the America by Alexis, prevent child prostitution from sparknotes, happening should be a global priority. There are several empirical models that have already been identified for on civil disobedience tourism industries to follow in different nations, and this paper will call for the use of those models in practice, as tourism companies and government agencies have the ability to institute these professional practices and public policies, as long as they can eliminate some of the barriers that may yet be in place.

The primary frame for this discussion is the les miserables context of maintaining social responsibility on the corporate level – while also maintaining sustainable tourism industries. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Essay about Is Inhumane and Murder Child defined a child as anyone who is not yet 18 years old; child prostitution consists of forcing a child to sparknotes, carry out sexual acts for financial or other forms of compensation, or even offering the use of a child for sexual services. It differs from Technological Advancement, other forms of les miserables child sexual abuse because of the commercial aspect; however, because children cannot legally consent (or intellectually consent) to of imperialism in asia, those activities, it is les miserables also quite similar to other forms of about Abortion Is Inhumane abuse. Les Miserables Sparknotes! Currently, both boys and girls (UNICEF 1997, 36) are prostituted at different places on the globe, starting as young as ten years old (ECPAT 2001). The majority of these children are prostituted by about Is Inhumane and Murder, local pimps, but there are also foreign tourists and pedophiles who exploit them as well.

Many of these children will service five to ten customers each day. The number of children is up for debate, particularly in developing nations, but research indicates that there could be as many as 10 million children trapped in prostitution worldwide (UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 2000). It is difficult to get an accurate count, because the people controlling them keep them in hiding and move them frequently (United Nations, 1996). The fact that organized crime is often bankrolling this practice makes it even more difficult to sparknotes, find them. There are a number of social, economic and cultural factors that contribute to the growth of child prostitution. Poverty is the main factor, but gender discrimination and low levels of education also play a role (United Nations, 1996).

There are communities in the world that condone prostitution and do not enforce the laws proscribing child prostitution (if those laws exist). There are also communities in which the male clients do not think that children will pass on HIV or other STD’s as easily as adults will (United Nations, 1996). Also, sex workers who have children end up seeing those children being prostituted as well (Deisher et al. 1989, 1163). Likely targets for pimps include children who have been abandoned or who have run away from do the the means, home. Girls are often lured or even kidnapped and then compelled to prostitute themselves. International sex tourism has become a major cause for child prostitution in some countries (Focal Point against les miserables sparknotes Sexual Exploitation of Children, 2001). As one might expect, different countries with child prostitution tend to have different causes for children ending up in that position. In Nepal, for example, the cause is usually poverty (Poude 1994, 10); in Nigeria, though, child prostitutes usually fled their homes because they were being abused there (Adedoyin and Adegoke 1995, 28). Thailand is one of the nations in essay disobedience which child prostitution is art of the sex tourism trade (Silbert and les miserables sparknotes Pines 1981, 408). The common thread, though, is that child prostitution brings in money.

Overall, the sex industry around the world brings in project an estimated $20 billion – $5 billion alone coming from child prostitution (Lim 1998). Indeed, children in prostitution often have to send money home to sparknotes, support their families. Socioeconomic structures in countries where this is taking place must take this issue into account, so that other children simply do not end up being shoved into sex labor. The vast majority of reports into child prostitution include acknowledgment of the health problems that can arise. However, because of the difficulty of even finding child prostitutes, there is little in the way of reliable data on mortality and morbidity. Sometimes, the studies are done and then discarded; those studies that do make it to publication are not easy to find, and often they focus on qualitative health data instead of quantitative information. The funding for major quantitative studies is difficult to find; again, this is not a problem that is registering in a significant way on the world’s radar. However, there have been some significant quantitative studies that serve as a starting point for this discussion. One example was the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) study of 176 children who were in prostitution in six countries.

Rates of do the ends HIV infection varied from 5 percent in Vietnam to 17 percent in Thailand (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 2000). Sparknotes! However, a different report studying children who had been rescued from brothels throughout southeast Asia found that 50 to 90 percent were infected with HIV (WCACSEC, 1996). Obviously, there are a number of factors at work in these cases, including existing levels of HIV infection, as well as access to and use of condoms. There are some communities in project which the total population of sex workers has an HIV infection rate of as high as 86 percent – adult and les miserables sparknotes children combined (UNAIDS, 2000). Every time an do the ends justify the means adolescent girl has unprotected sex with an infected partner, she has a 1 percent chance of getting HIV (Alan Guttmacher Institute 1999). However, if those children already have an STD that has created genital ulcers, that percentage jumps to 4 percent (WHO 2000). Les Miserables Sparknotes! With as many as ten clients a day, it will not take long for those long odds to effects in asia, become a reality. Once HIV infection sets in, the risk of les miserables contracting active tuberculosis also spikes (Willis and Levy, 2002, 1418). Security Must Grow Advancement Essay! With regard to les miserables, other STD’s, the path numbers are even more grim. Sparknotes! Within the ESCAP study, STD rates among prostituted children ranged from 36 percent in Cambodia to 78 percent in China (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 2000).

If one compares this to about Is Inhumane and Murder, the 5 percent incidence of STD’s in adolescents worldwide, these numbers are staggering. The numbers as far as pregnancy are also eye-opening. Any sexually active adolescent who does not utilize contraceptives has a 90 percent chance of sparknotes pregnancy within a year. Many of the girls forced into prostitution do not have contraceptives, and so they are almost guaranteed to become pregnancy. Because of substandard medical care, these girls also fall into the risk of complications in pregnancy – including mortality. According to the ESCAP study, 66 percent of the girls who became pregnant while prostituted sought abortions (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, 2000). On a worldwide level, between 1 and 4.4 million abortions are performed on adolescents each year – many of them using unsafe practices. For child prostitutes, these procedures bring a significant risk of injury and death.

Nearly 13 percent of path management all the maternal deaths worldwide each year are a result of unsafe abortions (Willis and les miserables sparknotes Levy, 2002, 1419). Of course, there are many other harmful outcomes for child prostitutes. A study of 475 sex workers in Security Grow with Technological five countries found that two-thirds of les miserables them fit the about Is Inhumane and Murder criteria for a diagnosis of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) (Farley et al. Les Miserables Sparknotes! 1998, 407). This is the same malady that makes it so difficult for soldiers returning home from war to reintegrate themselves into society. Substance abuse takes place at almost a 100 percent rate in many communities among all sex workers, not just children (Carr et al. 1996, 491). This leads to a risk not only management, of overdose but infection with any number of bloodborne pathogens, not to mention permanent organ damage and cancer. Many child prostitutes suffer violence at the hands of clients, pimps, police – and even those with whom they have intimate relationships.

That study with 475 sex workers found that 73 percent had been physically assaulted while working on the job, and sparknotes 62 percent had been raped since becoming a prostitute (Farley et al. 1998, 411). For children, these experiences can be deadly. In 1987, the Brundtland Commission presented the idea of sustainable development as “meeting the critical project needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (WCED, 1987). However, the notion of les miserables sustainable tourism did not appear for ten more years. In 1997, Agenda 21 for the Travel and Tourism Industry appeared, composed by the World Tourism Organization, the Earth Council, and the World Travel and Tourism Council. There were several reasons for the delay in Abortion and Murder developing these ideas specific to the tourism industry, such as the wide variety of tourist activities around the world (WTO, 2001). The primary research into sustainable tourism has focused on the social, cultural, ecological and economic impacts of tourism (Cooper et al, 1998; Fennell, 1999; Mason, 2003; Ryan, 2003; Swarbrooke, 1999), until recently. The most current research now focuses on globalization and tourism (Bianchi, 2007; Dodds and Joppe, 2005). Les Miserables! Because of a wave of neo-liberal governments coming into power and driving economic philosophy, the questions of the responsibility for business to push sustainable development have come to the forefront, and so corporate social responsibility (CSR) and business ethics have also entered the realm of study (Tepelus 2008, 100). At its most basic, CSR has to do with businesses adopting and implementing standards that are conscious of the environment, ethical and socially responsible (Tepelus 2008, 100).

The European Commission (2001) defined CSR as “a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on critical project a voluntary basis”(European Commission 2001, 8). There were four relevant elements to this: covering social and environmental issues; integration with operational strategies; remaining a voluntary condition; and interacting with stakeholders inside and outside the company (Tepelus 2008, 100). Tourism has been one of the last industries to adopt CSR practices (World Bank and International Finance Corporation 2003). Even with the adoption of CSR practices, though, many industries (including tourism) have focused on matters of environmental remediation and stayed away from questions regarding labor and human rights (Epler-Wood and Leray, 2005). Fennell (2006) has argued that there is an “immense void in sparknotes ethics” (xiii) that has kept tourism from following other industries into the areas covered by CSR, and has also argued that ethics in tourism could well “emerge as the next main research platform”(358) in this particular field. While it would be nice to study ethics, of course, the free market is certainly not pushing for and Murder a moral overhaul of the les miserables tourism industry.

Both the industry and the consumer are motivated by price: as Brackenbury (2003) noted, “price competition and its consequences of productivity improvement, and not product innovation, has occupied the minds of senior managers in this sector over the past ten years” (8). In other words, when there is a financial return on investment, the tourism industry will get involved; when it is not, there will not be innovation (Weiermair 2005). And so the likelihood of an industry-spurred drive to eradicate sex tourism seems like a murky prospect at best, at path least under the current paradigm. However, the lack of sparknotes ethical concern in Americans in Democracy America the industry has made sex trafficking and child sex tourism a widespread practice (Payne and sparknotes Dimanche, 1996). Of Imperialism In Asia! After all, sex tourism came about as a legitimate sector of the industry in the 1970’s (Tepelus 2008, 102). As a result, there have been some studies on child sex tourism – just as a part of industry research (O’Connell Davidson, 2004; Garrick, 2005; Cabezas, 2004) covering everything from similarities between child sex tourism and adult sex tourism, rationalizations that tourists give for engaging child prostitutes, and even classifying child sex tourists by citizenship.

While there is child sex tourism going on all over the world, Asia is currently the les miserables sparknotes epicenter. The Philippines have a reported 60,000 child prostitutes; there are over 400,000 in essay on civil India and over 800,000 in Thailand. The vast majority are girls who are younger than 16; however, in Sri Lanka, most of the 20,000 child prostitutes are boys (Glover, 2006). However, as has been already noted, the tourists are not the only ones to sparknotes, blame, as there is a specific set of cultural conditions that have to be in place for child prostitution to be condoned. In Thailand, for example, 3 out of 4 men are estimated to have had sex with a prostitute (Sachs, 1994). Small wonder, then, that there should be such a vast supply of child prostitutes.

The problem is global – and it is deeply entrenched in certain corners of the planet. There are already innovations that have been suggested by public and about Is Inhumane and Murder private entities to find ways to eradicate the child sex tourism industry, while maintaining sustainable tourism even in countries that base a good deal of sparknotes their tourism income on Grow with Technological foreigners entering the country on a sexual vacation. Sparknotes! My research objectives are as follows: Identify existing ideas for innovation that could lead to the reduction and removal of child sex tourism from common practice in developing nations Identify barriers to the implementation of those innovation Compare and contrast the on civil disobedience various ideas for les miserables sparknotes innovation and appraise the ones that are most likely to be effective, based on the cultural contexts involved Develop a series of Freedom for African America by Alexis recommendations for public and private entities based on the research. My research will be primarily qualitative in les miserables nature. The quantitative documentation about the problems that lead to child sex trafficking and critical path management tourism in developing countries is les miserables fairly exhaustive, based on both private studies and research carried out by for African Americans in Democracy America by Alexis, governmental and les miserables intergovernmental agencies. Learning more about the specifics of of imperialism sexually transmitted diseases and the average of sparknotes child prostitutes will not contribute significantly to and Murder, the existing body of knowledge on sparknotes the topic; for about and Murder this reason, my focus will be primarily on ways to implement and improve existing suggestions for innovation within the tourist industry and within public policy. The methods I will use will include researching and comparing the various suggested innovations with an eye toward matching them with culturally amenable contexts.

There are some alternative methodologies that could be used, and les miserables could also contribute to the body of effects of imperialism in asia knowledge on this subject. For example, these three methodologies would also be quite useful: Conducting a quantitative attitudinal study of adult males in the countries in sparknotes which child sex tourism and child prostitution are the most widespread Performing a longitudinal study on the economic indicators of countries that depend heavily on child sex tourism for critical project industry income Conducting a quantitative attitudinal study of les miserables sex tourists who visit one (or several) of the countries in which child sex tourism is in asia most widespread. The benefit of the les miserables first alternative study would be helpful in identifying cultural attitudes in specific countries toward child prostitution. As one study mentioned in the literature review found, Thai men are extremely unlikely to speak out against prostitution, as 3 out of every 4 Thai men were found to have had sex with a prostitute. In a country like that, prostitution would bring little outrage, if any, among those in position to Essay Abortion, make changes in les miserables public policy. Essay On Civil! Child prostitution would be less likely to inspire a similar outrage in a country in which prostitution is so common, because sexual partners would be more likely to be viewed as things to use or consume, rather than people. The second alternative study would be of interest based on les miserables the definition of sustainable development mentioned near the beginning of this paper – development that sustains a country today without sacrificing its ability to provide for itself in the future. The children who enter prostitution either end up dead or damaged dramatically in terms of health, emotional stability, and mental status.

The possibility that, once these children are no longer viable sex workers, they would then head into other sectors of the economy and become productive citizens is remote at best. This longitudinal study would analyze the effects of the loss of so much of the working-age population. The third alternative study would bring some intriguing results – provided that enough sex tourists could be found to answer, and provided that they gave accurate answers. After all, if someone is Essay about and Murder going to travel to another country for a sexual vacation, it is likely that the topic is les miserables not one that he (or she) would be squeamish about discussing on an anonymous basis with a researcher. Finding out the motivations that lead one to travel abroad for sexual activity would be of in Democracy in the some interest, but a greater area of contribution to this study would be to learn the attitudes of sex tourists (who are more likely to feel a sense of liberation than the general population in sexual matters) about child sex tourism. At what age should sex be legal? What should the consequences be for child prostitution – for les miserables sparknotes the purveyors who provide children to clients?

Those answers would be of interest, more from a sociology perspective. A degree of justify the means outrage from those who use the sex tourism industry, though, might spur entities within the countries that depend so heavily on sex tourism to make changes. Obviously, in a highly qualitative study like the one I propose, there is les miserables little in the way of analysis – at least in the statistical kind. Instead, the discussion will focus on justify the means finding existing methods of innovation and les miserables sparknotes identifying barriers – and recommending ways to overcome those barriers. While this might seem to path project, be covering some existing ground instead of being innovative, it is clear that the barriers have not yet been overcome as a result of the research that is already out les miserables sparknotes, there. Because of the epidemic that child sex tourism continues to do the ends justify, comprise, it is necessary for research to take place that will persuade those who are in positions of authority, both in les miserables the industry and within halls of Technological government, to find a different way to bring in tourists and their cash. However, there have been some innovations taken on by public and private entities to Freedom for African Americans in the America by Alexis, prevent and sparknotes even end sex tourism for for African by Alexis de Tocqueville children and sparknotes trafficking. Some of these innovations have been steps taken to Abortion Is Inhumane and Murder, match laws – not just national law but also legislation that covers behaviors outside annexed territories. Sparknotes! After completing the course, the les miserables sparknotes participants receive assistance in career placement. Since this program began in 1995, more than 1,300 youth have completed the program; now it runs in eight countries: Poland, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Australia, Indonesia and Freedom for African in Democracy in the America by Alexis de Tocqueville Romania (IBLF, 2007). The direct target of this program is not child sex tourism or trafficking, but the fact that it targets at-risk youth by helping them find potential employment in the hotel industry does take potential prostitutes off the streets in countries where they could likely end up working for a pimp.
